# The best photo sharing apps in 2026

Every photo sharing app is free until you read the fine print. One caps your videos at two minutes. Another gives everyone full quality and bills the album owner's storage for the whole group. A third quietly re-encodes every photo on the way through. The app you pick decides who can join, what the photos look like afterwards, and who pays.

At the time of writing (September 2026), this is who the good ones are for and what each asks in return.

## FamilyAlbum

The strongest free option if your photos are of children and your audience is grandparents. FamilyAlbum gives families [unlimited storage and uploads on the free plan](https://family-album.com/), organizes everything by month on its own, and stitches a recap video every three months without being asked. The catch is the specialisation: videos are [capped at two minutes](https://blog.family-album.com/blog/the-best-family-photo-sharing-apps-in-2026-free-and-private-options-compared/), and the whole product is built around parents sharing photos of their kids with relatives. A weekend trip with friends sits outside what it was designed for.

## Cluster

Cluster describes itself as [group sharing for friends and family, the antidote to social media](https://cluster.co/), and the product matches the label. Private groups, members-only feeds, notifications when something new lands, and a 4.8 star App Store rating across more than 16,000 reviews. It works for close friends, extended family and occasions from road trips to brunches. The limit is the shape: it is a social feed with albums inside it, and your photos live in Cluster's cloud rather than in a place you control. Contributing means the app.

## Apple Shared Albums

If everyone in your group carries an iPhone, Apple's built-in option just had its best update in years. New albums in iOS 27 share [full-resolution photos and videos with emoji reactions](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108916), and people can [join and contribute from the web without an Apple Account or Apple device](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108916). Albums created before the update keep the old behaviour, [reducing shared photos to 2048 pixels on the long edge](https://support.apple.com/en-us/148868), until someone upgrades them. The cost lands on the organizer: in upgraded albums, [everything added, including other people's photos, counts toward the album owner's iCloud storage](https://support.apple.com/en-us/148868), and a free iCloud plan holds 5 GB.

## Google Photos

Google Photos is the default because the app is everywhere and sharing works on any phone. What you add gets stored in Google Photos and counts against a [15 GB quota shared with Gmail and Drive](https://support.google.com/googleone/answer/9312312), anyone with the [sharing link can view the album](https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6131416), and contributing means your photos live in Google's cloud. It is the best tool for backing up your own library, and it asks for exactly that in exchange for one shared album.

## Huddled

We build this one, so check it against your own needs before trusting the claims. A Huddled Space is private and invite-only, [no re-encoding in either direction](https://huddled.cloud/), so the file you download is the file that came off the camera. Anyone you invite can add photos from a browser without an account, every member gets the same experience regardless of phone, and the free plan holds 1 TB. Where the others were built around a library, a family or a feed, a Space is built around an event: it closes when the day ends, which is what gets everyone uploading while the night is still fresh.

## Which one for your group

For a family sharing photos of the kids with relatives, FamilyAlbum. For a mixed group that lives in one chat app and wants a feed, Cluster. For an all-iPhone group that trusts the organizer's iCloud plan, Apple's shared albums. For a group that wants its own library backed up anyway, Google Photos. For a trip, a birthday or a one-night event where the photos matter at full quality and nobody should have to adopt an ecosystem, a Space.

[Start a Space](https://huddled.cloud/sign-up) and see whether it fits your group. Free, and it takes about a minute.
