# AI photo editing for group photos: what AI fixes, and what it can't

Group photos are the worst photos and the most important ones. Ten faces, one of them blinking, a bin in the corner of every frame, low light because the room was a pub. The AI editing tools built into every phone now fix a surprising amount of that. They all hit the same wall, though. They edit what was captured, and the best moments of a group weekend often were not.

At the time of writing (September 2026), here is the map.

## What the built-in tools fix

The phone in your pocket already does the classic fixes. [Google Photos removes background distractions with Magic Eraser and sharpens blurry shots with Unblur](https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/photos/editing/), and you can describe the edit you want in plain words with Ask Photos. [Apple's Clean Up removes distracting objects from the background](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-apple-intelligence-in-photos-iphf7de217f0/ios) of a photo, on [iPhone 16 models and 15 Pro and later](https://support.apple.com/en-us/121429).

For group photos these are real wins. The blinking uncle stays, the photobomber goes, and the photo that was almost good enough becomes the one everyone sends round.

## What none of them can do

None of them can edit the photo that exists only on someone else's phone. AI editing is a one-person tool in a many-camera situation. The fixable photos are in your library. The best photo of you from the trip may be on a phone you do not have, unedited because nobody who owns it will spend the evening doing it.

And there is a second limit, because [only the original owner of a photo can make permanent changes to it](https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/photos/editing/). In shared albums the AI tools work per-owner, and a group album gathers everyone's un-fixed photos anyway.

## The workflow that works

Gather first, edit second. Get every camera's photos into one place at original quality. Then the AI tools have the whole selection to work on, and the fixing happens once, in the copy that matters, rather than six times in six separate libraries. A [Huddled Space](https://huddled.cloud/) is built for that workflow. Everyone uploads at full quality, the Space holds one complete set, and whoever enjoys editing can work on the whole weekend rather than their own third of it.

[Start a Space](https://huddled.cloud/sign-up) for your next group thing, and edit from the complete set.
